A former Broward County sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison on drug charges as part of an undercover FBI corruption investigation.

The sentenced was imposed Thursday by a West Palm Beach federal judge on 37-year-old Richard Tauber, who pleaded guilty in December to cocaine trafficking charges. A second former deputy also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison.

Federal prosecutors say the deputies provided services such as transportation and surveillance for men they thought were involved in organized crime and high-level cocaine trafficking. In reality, the “criminals” were FBI agents and the drug loads were faked.

Five Hollywood police officers were convicted in 2007 on similar charges in a separate FBI undercover operation.
